5 Hacks for an Affordable Namibia Trip

Written by Annapaula Vakamuena

It’s a relaxing feeling to know that you can visit Namibia without stretching your budget. In this short and sweet blog, we’ll share 5 hacks for an affordable Namibia trip. Buckle your seatbelt and get ready for the ride!

1. Rent a car

We bet when you think about your upcoming Namibia adventure, you can already feel the excitement of self driving rushing through your pores. And you shall not be disappointed! Renting a car gives you the feeling of freedom - imagine the wind blowing through your fingertips while you´re singing in your car, without a single person far and wide. This luxury of discovering the stunning country at your own pace will make your trip magical.

By the way - we are offsetting your whole carbon footprint in Namibia. Being greener is one of our core principles. We love to explore new and exotic destinations and thus travel more and more. The problem is, that our environment suffers. With Viatu your whole trip is carbon neutral. For free. Forever. No one likes to pay a carbon fee which is why we pay it for you -  whether you want it or not.

2. Go off-season

The amazing thing about Namibia is that it can be visited all year round. To get the best deals out of this hard earned cash going off season is the best decision you can make. The peak seasons are from March to May, in addition to later in the year from August to October. Your smart self can book a trip just before the peak seasons or just right after. The prices drop by as much as 50% to 70%.

3. Buy groceries and cook yourself

The aroma carried by the gentle puffs of smoke coming from the simmering of your pot makes for a great companion. Most of the 4x4 rented cars are installed with a refrigerator to keep your perishable food items fresh.

4. Mix and match your accommodation

Seek the joys of your heart by mixing up your accommodation types. Do you cherish the luxury of air-conditioned rooms and refreshing jumps in your swimming pool? But you also enjoy chilling in the serenity of a campfire, listening to the sound of cracking wood and watching its colour play? Good news: You can have the best of both worlds while keeping to your budget.

5. Choose a rooftop tent instead of booking a tented campsite

Untented campsites are more affordable than tented ones. Having a rooftop tent attached to your car is more affordable plus it saves you the time for pitching and dismantling your tent every time you have to pack up. That gives you more time to enjoy your adventure.

Going on a trip to Namibia does not have to cost you an arm or a leg. You can definitely do it within your budget. Smarter, wilder and greener. For more info about Namibia have look at our complete guide: The Nambian Pocket Guide.
