What is the current situation in Rwanda?

Rwanda is open to tourists from all countries.

Rwanda is excitedly awaiting travellers from all over the globe - offering up unforgettable stays, breathtaking landscapes and unique wildlife.

🟢 Travellers entering Rwanda no longer need to be vaccinated or show proof of vaccination for entry. However, this is subject to change, so it is advisable to always travel with proof of vaccination.

What documentation do I need to enter Rwanda?

You do not need any documentation to fly in to Rwanda. However, some National Parks require certain documentation that is listed below:

Tourists to Rwanda’s national parks are now required to complete a guest registration and indemnity form in advance of their visit and submit the form electronically to the park.

Do I need to quarantine when I get to Rwanda?

No, you do not need to quarantine when you get to Rwanda.

Do I need to wear a face mask in Rwanda?

No, wearing masks is no longer mandatory in Rwanda.

Are the borders open?

Rwanda has opened its air and land borders to travellers.

Can I travel to Rwanda?

Rwanda is open for travel without any quarantine or testing requirements.

Are COVID-19 tests required to travel to Rwanda?

There is no requirement for a COVID-19 test to enter Rwanda. People may be subject to random Covid-19 testing by the Ministry of Health upon entry and are encouraged to be vaccinated before crossing the border.

Is public transportation open in Rwanda?

Public transportation in Rwanda is operating.

Are the restaurants and bars open in Rwanda?

Restaurants in Rwanda are open.

Are businesses and attractions open in Rwanda?

All businesses and attractions in Rwanda are open.

What do I need for my departure?

A Covid test is no longer a requirement to depart Rwanda by air. However, Covid testing (at own cost) is available for all travellers whose final destination requires one at health centres and other designated sites.

Is there a curfew in Rwanda?

There is no curfew in Rwanda.

Getting tested while in Rwanda for your return home…

Eventhough testing now is not a neccessity when returning home, here is some information in case you do feel the need to get tested.

Can one get a PCR test done in Rwanda?

RBC offers rapid antigen testing without an appointment at dozens of accredited private hospitals/clinics throughout Rwanda. Rapid antigen tests cost approximately $5 (RWF 5,000). A complete list of accredited private clinics offering this service is found here. Rapid antigen test results are available shortly after the sample is taken and are delivered in person and/or via text message.

Contracting Covid-19 while in Rwanda

How likely is it that I will get Covid-19 on my trip to Rwanda?

Very unlikely. Covid-19 infections are few and far between in Rwanda. Chances are very low to zero of getting infected.

What happens if I get Covid-19 whilst on my trip?

If you suspect that you might have Covid, don’t panic. Isolate yourself and seek medical attention if you are unwell. Check what the Covid-19 procedure is at your hotel or lodge and follow their guidelines.

Will I be able to find a doctor and hospital?

Yes, most urban hubs and towns in Rwanda have clinics and doctors. Kigali has the best hospitals and medical facilities.

Who covers the cost of a medical emergency?

If you have taken out comprehensive travel insurance, your insurer will cover the costs for usual medical treatment. Check the details of your insurance before you leave and if faced with an emergency situation while travelling.
