Viatu Announces Partnership with African Monarch Lodges

19.4.2021

We are excited to announce our partnership with African Monarch Lodges, known for their world-class community empowerment. Through this partnership, travellers will be able to book any African Monarch Lodge via our platform.

Accommodation

African Monarch Lodges are pioneers in operating joint venture lodges within Namibian National Parks and Communal Conservancies and have several properties in Bwabwata National Park, all along the banks of the Kwando River.

Throughout their portfolio of properties, every African Monarch Lodge exudes a desire to create memorable African experiences. Whether on foot, by boat or vehicle, guests will get up close and personal with the remarkable wildlife that traverses the Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area (KAZA) – the world’s largest international conservation area.

Sustainability

African Monarch Lodges see themselves as custodians of the endangered and rare species found in Namibia. As such, their inspiring Sijwa Project was born. The initiative aims to create a closed system in which the environment surrounding the lodges is protected while uplifting the local community through skill-sharing. All recyclable waste from the African Monarch Lodges is turned into exquisite sellable crafts and art. The project also serves as an organic permaculture nursery to supply food for local people and lodge guests, which mitigates the air and road pollution produced when transporting food.

Furthermore, the project has built an artisanal skills training centre, a junior ranger training venue, launched a beehive initiative, a free-range egg scheme, as well as an indigenous tree nursery for visitors to buy and plant a tree to offset their carbon footprint.

We are delighted about this partnership and encourage our travellers to book a stay at any African Monarch Lodge and support their wonderful green initiative.
